As some of you might remember, one of the movies Anthony listed as his most anticipated for 2024 was Mickey17. In a devastating twist of events, the movie has since been indefinitely delayed.
Now that we don’t have Mickey17 to look forward to, we thought we’d talk about what is going to be the greatest event of the century: Anthony and Keila’s wedding!
Let’s celebrate by sharing our favorite wedding moments in film.
Anthony
Shrek
Planning a wedding is time consuming and ridiculously stressful. Our main goal has been to plan our perfect day but it’s hard to not feel more obligated to make sure our guests have a great time. Stress and anxiety aside, curating the music to play throughout the day has been my favorite. I’ve spent tens of hours sifting through countless albums for songs to play throughout our full day of events. It’s been my mission to capture the same energy as the wedding and reception on display at the end of Shrek. It’s the perfect vibe. At this point in the movie, the main villain has been defeated and true love prevails. There is nothing left but to celebrate two people coming together against all odds—a true fairy tale ending. I have added a couple of songs from the Shrek soundtrack so i’ll report back to see how effective they were in pleasing our guests.
What If
The one and only nightmare I’ve had around the wedding revolved around someone giving the worst possible speech imagineable. When I woke up from it, I found myself going back to the speech Daniel Radcliffe gives in What If to comfort me. It’s short, sweet, and is easily the best wedding toast in any movie I’ve seen before:
Livia
The Wedding Singer
The ultimate wedding movie has to be The Wedding Singer. Anthony and I grew up watching this movie and I really think it’s a pivotal one that shaped both of our senses of humor. One scene that stands out is when Robby (Adam Sandler) is stood up by his bride-to-be. The way that the late great Alexis Arquette screams “Oh God!” is iconic. I needed to include the clip but could only find a recording of a very old TV playing the scene. Enjoy:
The Village
This isn’t technically a “wedding moment” but it’s close enough. Also, I’ll find any excuse to talk about The Village.
Spoilers ahead for a movie that came out in 2004:
One of my favorite love stories in film is between Ivy and Lucious. After a traumatic event at Ivy’s sister’s wedding, she “sees” Lucious outside of her family’s home. This whole scene is perfection. The way she continually asks him questions and doesn’t really let him answer before she moves on to the next subject. The way he looks at her, hanging on to every word.
But my favorite part is when he gets frustrated at her asking if he will dance with her at their wedding. Not because she’s way off base about who they are to each other but because he wants to lead. He’s been so quiet and restrained this whole movie and seeing him become irritated at how she won’t let his feelings for her go unnoticed is very funny.
I am obsessed with how the frustration in his voice instantly melts away when he actually answers the question because no matter how relentless she is, he can’t be mad at her for too long. Especially when he thinks about marrying her.
Even the camera panning away, as if to give them privacy, is perfect.
This is the peak of romance. Just see it for yourself:
